Room and Board

The International Summer School also arranges accommodation. This is only possible for participants of the Summer School.

Those requiring accommodation must send the corresponding form "Accommodation" to the Summer School, together with the registration. The reservation of a room is then guaranteed.

The rooms are basic student single rooms, meals not being provided. It is usually possible to use available kitchen facilities. Either bath or shower is provided. Internet access is not possible in the rooms, but in some university buildings or in internet cafés.

Only a limited number of rooms is available in student residences; many rooms are in private student flats/houses with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities or in private homes where one or sometimes several rooms are sublet for the duration of the course.

Please bring your own sheets and towels.

The rent for such a single room is € 330 on average.

Those who have special accommodation requests must note this on the form (e.g. separate flat or sharing a flat with certain persons also participating in the course). This will be considered if possible. The rent for separate 1- or 2-room flats is considerably higher (depending on requirements and standard, up to € 950).

It is not possible to arrange rooms in a family home or with a host family.

All rooms are located in Heidelberg or surrounding areas; there are always good bus/train connections well into the night.

The total rent is to be paid in cash upon arrival.

Only on arrival in Heidelberg, the participants will be given the address of their rooms.

The rent is for one month: Saturday 31 July to Saturday 28 August (day of departure).

Please note: More information as regards accommodation cannot be provided here. Therefore all queries in this regard will not be answered. More detailed information will be sent with the confirmation of the registration.

The 'Mensa' (university cafeteria) offers meals at moderate prices. Food costs vary according to individual requirements.

Participants can buy a Ticket permitting them to travel on all public transport in Heidelberg and the surrounding areas (this does not include the mountain gondola). The Ticket can be bought from the Summer School office and costs € 49,00.
